Holiday Break! Let’s Not Break Your Website!

It’s that time of year. Time to celebrate all kinds of holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years, Festivus (if you get that reference I like you even more)! There’s lots to eat, lots to drink and lots of people to be merry and jolly with.  There’s also lots of people taking time off from work and something that doesn’t.

One thing that isn’t taking time off from work is your website. It’s still doing what it does for you and your company. Whether it’s selling things, inviting people to interact, giving information on what your company does it generally doesn’t take time off unless it’s down. However, with people taking time off, do you have a plan to keep things rolling in their absence? If you have an ecommerce site (selling things) it’s very likely you do. If you’re not selling on your site, what’s your plan as people take time off? Will the site be OK or is it treated like the little dust bunnies we all have in places in our homes?

Here’s something even more scary than dust bunnies (sorry) about this time of year, well really any time of year, but less people internally are probably looking at it. Is your website secure? Are those using the site using strong passwords or something weak? Don’t know. ASK! Weak passwords are one of the weakest points of access of any website! Another thing is user roles. Make sure only those that really need admin access have it. We’ve seen some scenarios where everyone had admin access. That’s VERY dangerous as anyone can do anything to the website: good or bad. Those are the internal threats. What about external threats?

Does your website have a tool(s) to keep bad people and robots out of your site? There are several security tools out there to watch the site when you may not be paying so much attention to it while you’re enjoying holiday cheer or any other time for that matter. We can help with both internal and external threats if needed.

Let’s end on a high note. Happy Hanukkah (Hanukkah Sameach!), Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! We hope and pray the holiday season will be magical for you, your company and your family. May 2017 exceed your expectations!
